John Keefe is a data journalist in private practice and an adjunct lecturer at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Before the pandemic, John was the investigations editor at Quartz , where he also created and led the Quartz AI Studio , which worked to help journalists use machine learning in their reporting. Keefe created and led the Data News Team at public radio station WNYC and led the stations news division for nearly a decade. A self-described "professional beginner," Keefe is the author of Family Projects for Smart Objects: Tabletop Projects That Respond to Your World from Maker Media and is the owner-founder of a tinkering and teaching company called Really Good Smarts LLC .
